A little Christmas fringe for your day......

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.


The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap.


When out on the lawn there rose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.


The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer.


With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!


"Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"


As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too.


And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.


He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.


His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.


The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!


He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.


He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!


He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,


"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

Happy Birthday to me

Happy Birthday to me,

It was my birthday today.
My wonderful family took me out for a splendid breakfast,
and there is a party to be held later today.

The cake, I must admit, I am looking forward to very much. And presents. Everyone loves presents.

I have concluded my cat isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer.....

As we are eating supper we hear a rather melodious thunk.
Sylvestor, my immensely intelligent cat, hitting the glass patio door as he charges a chickadee,
And, the chickdee, flying into the glass patio door.
The cat recovers quickly and intently watches the bird lie in the snow, but soon the chickadee flies away and the cat resumes his normal bird watching.

And this is the end of Stories about Sylvestor.

Finnish spice cake.

Some of you know that I'm Finnish from reading my profile, right? Well, here is a wonderful Finnish recipe for Maustekakku, or Spice Cake. Enjoy!

Spice Cake

2/3 Cup of melted butter

2 Cups of brown sugar

3 Eggs

2 Cups of flour 

1/2 Cup of ground almonds

1 graded orange rind

1/2 tsp. of cloves

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

1/2 tsp. cardamom*

1/2 tsp. nutmeg

2/3 cup cream

2 tsp. baking soda

Beat together melted butter and sugar until frothy. Beat eggs, add to mixture. Stir in cream.
Combine dry ingredients together. Gradually mix with wet. Stir in ground almonds and grated orange rind. pour into tube pan that has been greased and dusted with bread crumbs. Bake @ 350 Degrees F for approximately one hour.
For small cake approximately 35 minutes.

*Cardamom is a Scandinavian spice that you can get at some grocery stores, but is usually hard to find.

Seekers Book One - Review

I found a lovely new series yesterday, written by the Erin Hunter team who wrote the much-loved Warriors series. I purchased the first book to see what it was like, and now I think I'm in love! I finished it today, and I just brought it home it yesterday! It was lovely. Please do try it out for yourself.

Here is my blurb:

Three bear cubs, Kallik, a polar bear from Hudson Bay, Lusa, a black bear from the Vancouver Zoo, and Toklo, a grizzly from Calgary's forests are separated from their families and must survive on their own. Eventually, their paths unite and they must make an incredible journey towards the place where ice never melts and bears dance in brightly coloured lights. Guided by the Pole Star and a shape shifting grizzly named Ujurak they begin they're journey. 

I give it eight stars out of ten.

Greetings Earthlings! [This will become my usual greeting?]  How is it rolling? I suppose you're wondering in your little minds as to what the title could be revealing, so let's delve right in.

Well, first thing you need to know, is that Shadowflower didn't know one thing about Pokémon, Pokéfarms, or Eeveé's. I still don't know what Eeveé's are! But, all of my blogger friends were constanty talking of them, and telling everyone to,

Yess.  There was also the Eeveé Clans roleplaying blog that I wanted to join, but I didn't know anything about. So anyway I thought I was missing something, and decided to get a Pokéfarm. Hey! It's fun! I like it! My user name is Shadowflower so you can find me easily, and my farm is called, 'the Funny Farm'. :) I tried it, and it's really fun! So, here's a final send-off:

Ferret Furries Review

Okay so start off, I'm gonna say Ferret Furries is a pretty cool blog. It is a blog about Willowfeather,  and her ten pets, but mostly Willowfeather. She posts preeetty frequently, and most of her posts are really interesting with pictures neat text! One thing that catches my eye every time I come there, is the neat chunk of forty-two awesome buttons at the bottom. There are some cool gadgets I've never seen before, and a nice layout and text.  All in all, I'd give this blog a 8.7 rating out of 10.  Click HERE to go to Ferret Furries, (and Other Thingies).
